Privacy Policy

What we do with your information, why, and what you can ask us to do about it. Last updated 14 August 2026.

Who we are

The Electrician London Ltd is the data controller for the information described below. We are a limited company based at Hawthorn Road, Wallington, Surrey SM6 0SX.

If you have any question about this policy or about your data, email [email protected] or call 07881 624 637.

What we collect and why

When you send us an enquiry

The enquiry form asks for your name, phone number, email address and postcode, the type of enquiry, and whatever you write in the message box. Commercial enquiries may also include a company name, number of sites and contract type. We record the date and time, the page you sent it from, your IP address and your browser's user agent string.

We use this to answer your enquiry, arrange a site visit, prepare a quotation and contact you about the work. The IP address and user agent are kept purely to investigate spam and abuse of the form.

Lawful basis: taking steps at your request prior to entering into a contract, and our legitimate interest in responding to business enquiries and protecting the form from abuse.

When we carry out work for you

We hold your contact details, the site address, records of the work, test results, certificates, photographs of the installation, and invoicing records. Certificates and test results are also submitted to NICEIC and, for notifiable work in dwellings, to your local authority building control.

Lawful basis: performance of our contract with you, and legal obligation for anything we are required to record and notify under the Building Regulations and BS 7671.

When you use this website

The site sets one strictly necessary cookie to keep your session secure and to protect the enquiry form against cross-site request forgery. It contains no personal information and expires when you close your browser.

If you accept analytics cookies, Google Analytics 4 records anonymised information about which pages are visited and how people move through the site. Nothing from Google is loaded until you press Accept, and you can change your mind at any time. Full detail is in our cookie policy.

Lawful basis: legitimate interest for the strictly necessary cookie, and consent for analytics.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your data, and we do not share it for marketing. We do share it with:

  • Our email provider, which transmits and stores enquiries sent through the website form.
  • Our web host, on whose servers the site and its backup log of enquiries are stored.
  • NICEIC, which receives certification records as part of our registration and annual assessment.
  • Local authority building control, for notifiable work in dwellings under Part P of the Building Regulations.
  • Google, if and only if you have accepted analytics cookies.
  • Our accountants and, where necessary, our insurers or legal advisers, in connection with invoicing, claims or disputes.

Where a provider processes data outside the UK, we rely on the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or the relevant adequacy regulations.

How long we keep it

  • Enquiries that do not become jobs: 12 months, then deleted. This includes the CSV backup log.
  • Customer and job records, certificates and test results: at least 6 years after completion, which is the limitation period for contract claims, and longer where the certificate remains relevant to the safety of an installation.
  • Accounting records: 6 years from the end of the accounting period, as required by HMRC.
  • Analytics data: retained by Google for 14 months.

Your rights

Under the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 you have the right to ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, to have inaccurate data corrected, to have data erased where we no longer need it, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to receive it in a portable format. Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time.

Some of these rights are qualified. We cannot delete certification records we are required to retain, or accounting records HMRC requires us to keep.

To exercise any of them, email [email protected]. We will respond within one month. There is no charge unless a request is manifestly unfounded or excessive.

Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk, or on 0303 123 1113.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS. The enquiry form is protected by a cross-site request forgery token, a honeypot field and a timing check, and by Google reCAPTCHA, which checks that the form is being filled in by a person. To do that, Google receives your IP address and information about your browser and how you use the page, under Google's privacy policy. It only runs once you start using an enquiry form. Enquiry backups are written to a directory that sits outside the public web root and cannot be reached from a browser. Access to customer records is limited to staff who need it.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we use personal data we will update this page and change the date at the top. Material changes affecting existing customers will be notified directly.
